Precise Flow Measurement for Viscous Fluids
The PDFlo™ PDSG1 is a positive displacement spur gear flow meter designed for accurate, repeatable measurement of oils, greases, fuels, solvents, polyurethanes, brake fluid, skydrol, and other non-abrasive lubricating fluids. Unlike turbine meters, which can lose accuracy as fluid viscosity changes, the PDSG1 uses gear-based displacement to measure a precise volume of fluid with each rotation, maintaining plus or minus 0.5% accuracy and plus or minus 0.1% repeatability across a wide range of viscosities and flow conditions.
The meter works by allowing the fluid to drive a pair of precision stainless steel spur gears. As each gear tooth passes a non-intrusive hall-effect sensor, a pulse is generated that is directly proportional to the volume of fluid passing through the meter. This pulse output gives a highly accurate real-time representation of flow rate. The resulting signal can be fed to a compatible transmitter, panel display, or electronic module for readout and control. The meter is factory-calibrated with a K Factor specific to each unit, which remains accurate across most fluid viscosities without adjustment.
Six capacity options are available covering flow ranges from 0.003 to 120 GPM, and three body materials are offered: aluminium, T-303 stainless steel, and T-316 stainless steel. O-rings are available in Teflon, Viton, and EPDM to suit different fluid chemistries. All models are rated to 5,000 PSI pressure, and maximum operating temperature is 185°F for aluminium body units and 400°F for stainless steel body units. The meter supports bidirectional flow without damage to internal components, and no straight run piping is needed upstream or downstream, simplifying installation into existing pipework.
The PDSG1 is a proven, cost-effective alternative to turbine technology, offering comparable accuracy at a lower price point with simpler maintenance. The gear assemblies, shafts, and o-rings are all accessible for cleaning and inspection without specialist tools, and the meter's wear-resistant construction is designed for long service life across demanding industrial applications.
