The CalFlo™ CFVF Thermal Mass Liquid Flow Meter is a robust insertion-style sensor designed for accurate flow measurement across a broad range of compatible liquids. Fully encapsulated in epoxy resin, the CFVF uses solid-state thermal mass sensing technology with no moving parts, giving it inherent reliability and stability even under harsh environmental conditions. Its stainless steel housing provides corrosion resistance and physical durability suited to demanding industrial process environments.
The CFVF is well suited to pipes up to 16 inches in diameter, making it a practical choice for both smaller process lines and larger distribution or transfer pipework. Installation uses a 1-inch NPT union nut as standard, with an optional Weldolet fitting available for welded installations. The unit ships complete with a 6.5 ft pre-wired Oilflex cable, and mounting requires only basic tools. For optimal accuracy, the unit should be positioned in a vertical pipe with ascending flow, or horizontally with the sensor in the horizontal position, with adequate straight pipe runs before and after the fitting.
Measurement range is continually adjustable in the field using two onboard potentiometers accessible at the rear of the housing. One potentiometer handles zero point adjustment and the other sets the upper end of the measuring range, covering a span from a minimum of 0.25 to 0.65 fps up to a maximum of 0.25 to 6.5 fps. A color-changing LED provides a clear visual indication of flow status: green signals that flow is within the adjusted measuring range, and red indicates the range has been exceeded.
The CFVF outputs a standard 4-20 mA signal and operates on 24 VDC, making it straightforward to integrate with existing control systems, PLCs, and data acquisition equipment. Its NEMA 4X (IP65) enclosure rating means it is suitable for washdown and wet environments, and the epoxy encapsulation protects the electronics from vibration, moisture, and chemical exposure.
Typical applications include potable and non-potable water systems, deionized water circuits, light oil monitoring, sulfuric acid processes, and diluted corrosive liquid handling. The CFVF's combination of broad liquid compatibility, field-adjustable range, and solid-state reliability makes it a dependable everyday workhorse for industrial flow measurement.
